Toxic Lab
I am bored today. Waiting on news and I should have eaten breakfast. Time goes by so fast in the morning. I really should use my time wisely in the mornings. Anyhow, this is my first post on pitas in many months. I did not even look to see when I last posted here. I want to be surprise when I click on the "done" button.

Film Action Oregon
So this is what I have to do at this moment. I am waiting on something to do. While someone else walks around. Yet there are moments where someone says, "hey look at this fat lady drop nasty stuff into a pool" and everyone gathers around to watch. So I am being unproductive because I am not pretending to be busy?

Another link for today. It was from the last link. I have to type really fast. Why? My heart is pulsing and racing. I do not have anything to do at this moment, so I have to pretend to do something until something falls onto me.

IPRC : The Independent Publishing Resource Center, Portland, Oregon, USA
I listened to a story about a symposium about having zines in Portland, Oregon. In the story, this link was mentioned. Just what is this site and what is its purpose? The Independent Publishing Resource Center facilitates creative expression and identity by providing individual access to the resources and tools for the creation of independently published media and art. Since its inception in 1998 the center has been dedicated to encouraging the growth of a visual and literary publishing community by offering a space to gather and exchange information and ideas, as well as to produce work.

I need to run over to the library to return this book that I checked out on C++. It is a little difficult to follow. SO I will get another book instead. Perhaps I can get a book on JavaScript or one of the programs I need to learn. I think I may need to make a schedule over what order to learn things. So I think now I should strengthen my skills with HTML/XHTML and CSS while learning JavaScript. From there, I can move onto DHTML and Ajax since those two combine all of what I just mentioned. Also I need to figure out where DOM fits into the ratio. so DOM will come after JavaScript, but before DHTML and Ajax. And why do I feel an unnecessary rush to learn all of these?

NPR: Health Care: An International Comparison
Countries with governments and economies similar to the United States have come up with a variety of methods to make sure that all of their citizens receive health care. While residents in Europe and Japan may pay higher insurance premiums or taxes than Americans, in the end, when all costs are added up, Americans spend more money on health care per person with fewer people covered. Compare various countries with this web site.

Laika
LAIKA is an animation studio specializing in feature films, commercials, music videos, broadcast graphics and short films. Located in Portland, Oregon, it is owned by Nike co-founder and Chairman Philip H. Knight. I enjoy the fact that this company is located in Portland, my future home. Perhaps I could be a future employer for this company. Also I am excited that this company will be releasing Coraline in wide release in February 2009 (limited release on December 19th). Wow!

On President's Day, Remember Your 5 Black Presidents
This websites looks back at what they consider to be the first five black presidents. It starts off with the following paragraph.

We keep hearing that this year will mark the first time a major political party in the United States nominated a woman or a Black person as its presidential candidate. For women, that is true, but some historians say Sen. Barack Obama, if elected, would not be the nation's first Black president. They say he certainly won't be the first president with Black ancestors--just the first to acknowledge his Blackness.

C++ Programming (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
To learn JavaScript I am using a book that is part of the Visual QuickStart Guide series. I find it to be easy to understand and I am learning a great deal. I found this book...the Visual QuickStart Guide version of learning C++ and so I have to get this book. I think I will purchase this book in the next few weeks.

Companion site for the book "JavaScript for the World Wide Web, Visual QuickStart Guide, 5th Edition" by Tom Negrino and
I am going high steam with learning JavaScript. I am using this book to help me learn. I am a bit nervous nervous about it, but I think that by the end of this summer, I will know a great deal about JavaScript. I really wish I had the latest edition (6th edition). I was looking at some of the scripts and this version teaches you how to have an external JavaScript page and link it in the header, much the same way that I link CSS pages. Oh well. I can pick up on that skill later.

Exploiting Sound, Exploring Silence
As mentioned on the last link this New York Times article is not only a great introduction to the craft of film sound, but also gives you a whole new appreciation for the importance of sound design in double-nominee "No Country for Old Men." With only 16 minutes of music in the film's entire 122-minute running time, the sound effects have even greater impact. As "No Country" sound editor, Skip Lievsay explains, “The idea here was to remove the safety net that lets the audience feel like they know what’s going to happen. I think it makes the movie much more suspenseful. You’re not guided by the score and so you lose that comfort zone.”

The Large Association of Movie Blogs: The LAMB Devours the Oscars - Best Sound Editing; Best Sound Mixing
I was reading the many wonderful reviews for the latest Pixar film Wall-E and I read about how the first hour is almost wordless silent. It has lots and lots of sound effects and it made me think about the two Oscars that are given our for sound. Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. I was thinking...what is the difference between the two. Thanks to the above page I now know that the Sound Editing award is given for achievement in executing the sound design of a film - it has a lot to do with the creation of sound effects. (In fact, for many years, the award was called Best Sound Effects , then Best Sound Effects Editing.) The Sound Mixing award, by contrast, is based on the excellence of the finished soundtrack of the film, including the entire mix of sound effects, music and dialogue. So now I know.

The HTML Certification
Wow...well here is the first step in being certified in HTML. Here is what the site says about the test:

The HTML exam will be taken over the Internet, at any time and from any location, but the exam should be supervised by a person selected by the exam candidate.

The exam consists of 70 multiple choice or true/false questions. The exam is time-limited to 70 minutes.

Candidates must have 75% correct answers to pass the exam and become certified.

Candidates who have more than 95% correct answers will get an Excellency Degree notation added to their certificate.

Immediately after completing the exam, you will be informed of your score and of your pass/fail status. If you achieve certification status, W3Schools will ship you an HTML Developer Certificate. The document will contain your personal data acknowledging your status as a Certified HTML Developer.

So this is going to be really cool...Just think my name could be Certified HTML Developer Timmy Gibson.

Politico - Politico.com
On today's episode of NPR's Day to Day, there was a lot of mention of this website, Politico.com writer Ben Smith spoke with Alex Cohen about Barack Obama's campaign funding sources while Madeleine Brand spoke with Politico.com's Jonathan Martin about the Republican candidate's funding. So just what is Politico Dot Com? Well here is a copy and paste statement about them:

The Politico's goals are simple. Over the past several weeks, we set out to assemble the most talented and interesting collection of journalists -- established names as well as promising young people -- that we could find. Now, we will turn these reporters loose on the subject we love: national politics.

We will focus on three arenas. The first is Congress and the constant flow of agendas, personalities and power struggles that define daily life on Capitol Hill. The second is the 2008 presidential campaign, a race already churning and one likely to shape history in ways far beyond the typical election. The third is lobbying and advocacy, a part of the capital economy undergoing rapid growth and change. It is a business alive with interesting and influential characters whose impact is dimly understood and insufficiently covered. -

The NPR 100
This a list of the most important American musical works of the 20th century according to NPR. It must be an exciting list. I am so exhausted. I spent most of my time on my lunch break on the phone. I called Bank of America to find out the hours of the Hillsboro Village branch. I talked with Michael of course. I left a message for mum. I also talked with paMike. i have not spoken with him in a very long time, so it was refreshing to hear his voice. I am just having a relaxing afternoon at work listening to DJ Shadow, Erykah Badu, Zero 7, and Stereolab. Tonight I need to get to bed on time (9pm). I went to bed late last night because I was trying to find some of kind of worksheet for Michael and he had placed it in his backpack. Anyhow, he will pick me up from Quiznos and then it will be off to home.

Morning Farms Insider
I need to check out this website. I ripped the address of a box of veggie burger so that I can visit it. It was my box and i did not just go to the grocery store to rip addresses off of boxes. No. One morning, after making some veggie burger for my lunch, I saw the address on the box and decided to put it in my book bag as a reminder to visit the site. According to the box, I can get exclusive access to offers and unique content. Also I enjoy the fact that I am living a live of vegetarianism. My gosh this day is going so slow. When will it end? Oh wait, I just slightly changed the subject. Oh well. I will post this on my Pitas weblog sometime today as I listen to NPR's Day to Day Podcast.

The maker of the map (Downtown Cliff) had these comments about it. Here is my first rudimentary stab at this idea. Two linear lines and two circulators. Major hotels (blue h), hospitals (red h), major attractions (star), universities (u), business district ($), and residential clusters (green r) near the routes are marked. http://www.nashvillecharrette.com/index.php?showtopic=1015

I am co-chilling at work. I have resurrected tmy web log and so it is here for all to see. you can even go back to links that i had back in 2002 when i first started placing links on here...so of course many of those links do not work anymore and some will not lead to the correct place. i know one prime example is the TechTV link I placed sometime in 2002. we all know that hungry G4 took over TechTV. But I will not even discuss that matter. Here is a link to this page that has lots of photos of the Max train service in Portland, OR. so that makes me happy to see all of those photos. I will have to download them before those photos are no longer available. anyhow, that is all for now. i will write more sometime soon.
