Mary Stanton

I'm going to start reading her books. I'm interested in starting off with her series called Unicorns of Balinor. I was looking up information about Bruce Coville at amazon.com and I just so happened to have found information about her at amazon and so by doing a yahoo search, I stumbled onto her page. Isn't it just lovely or what?

Bruce Coville

I read My Teacher is an Alien last night and I am anxious to read the others from the series. I've read the second book in the series years ago, so it will be refreshing to read it. Plus it's interesting to know that Peter went off into space at the ending of the first one and he returns in the second one. This late afternoon, I was in a book store and I bought Into the Land of the Unicorns and it's book one of the Unicorn Chronicles. There's a book two called Song of the Wanderer and I'm going to see if the library has it. I don't rememeber seeing it though, but they might. I'm getting back into reading and it's been one joyous adventure after another.

After the Fall Juices

After The Fall began in 1970 when a group of young entrepreneurs in upstate New York began pressing organic apples, pasteurizing the juice over a wood fire and trucking it to markets in New York City. While their production system was extremely modest, these juice visionaries worked with purity, quality and healthfulness in mind. The juice was a smashing success and soon became an East Coast favorite. After The Fall joined Smucker Quality Beverages in 1994 and is now a hit with consumers nationwide.

YACCS : Commenting made simple.

YACCS is a free service that allows you to place a comments section on your weblog (weblogs are web sites that are updated on a regular basis). It's very easy to set up and use; If you use Blogger, then YACCS does all the work for you! But even if you don't use Blogger, adding YACCS only requires you to add a small piece of code to your template/layout. To use YACCS, you don't need a host that supports scripting, and you don't have to know anything about programming.

The Political Compass

There's abundant evidence for the need of the political compass. The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left' , established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape. For example, who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of conservatives like Margaret Thatcher ? On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook. That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it.

Those are fun to do. So anyhow, I'm still listening to Coldplay's "Moses" and I just want to write a little before the song ends and the lab closes. As she tries to regain her memory and convince her coworkers of her innocence, a vengeful spirit uses her as an earthly pawn... which only further convinces all involved of both her guilt and her increasingly stead descent into madness and delusion."

- - 28 Days Later - -

Margaret A. McGurk of The Cincinnati Enquirer says,
"It has been a long time since we've seen a horror movie as wild, weird and scary as 28 Days Later. A post-apocalyptic-zombie-terror-bloodbath, the movie pits a handful of survivors against random gangs of people infected with a rage virus unleashed from a London laboratory when animal activists break in to free infected chimps. Within seconds, one drop of infected blood transforms a victim into a growling, red-eyed killing machine. The story comes to us chiefly through Jim (Cillian Murphy), who learns about the plague when he wakes up alone in a hospital where he had been in a coma after a bicycle accident. By the time he comes to, the hospital has been de-populated, as has most of London. He wanders the streets in shock until he finds himself running for his life from a mob of attackers. A couple of uninfected survivors rescue him and fill him in on the disaster while they hide in a corner store eating junk food. Selena (Naomie Harris) is the obvious leader, and the one who demands that Jim be prepared to instantly kill anyone who becomes infected - an amoral imperative he can barely absorb. When Selena, Jim and some other survivors they find along the way (including the terrific Brendan Gleeson) seek refuge at an isolated army outpost, the threat to their lives and sanity is magnified in deeply creepy ways that it would be unfair to describe. Directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) and written by novelist Alex Garland (The Beach), the movie tips its hat to such classic predecessors as Night of the Living Dead and its sequel Dawn of the Dead. It also makes no apologies about having a brain in its head; this film aims to do more than make the audience jump in its seats. The filmmakers know perfectly well which strings they aim to pluck in the jittery mesh of thoroughly modern anxieties. They invoke shadowy fears of science, power, consumerism, disease and corruption, among others. That is not to say the movie is particularly talky. It happily dishes up fistfuls of blood-pounding suspense, as when the survivors make their way through a tunnel infested with a murderous mob. (And what a stroke of wit to put them in a London taxi, one of the trustiest wheeled vehicles invented.) Slightly less enjoyable (except perhaps to the vampire community) is the gore that periodically splashes all over the screen. But Boyle keeps the bloodshed under realistic control, considering that his characters are either being ripped to shreds or chopped up with machetes. The movie is shot on digital video, which lends a raw, even dirty look to many scenes. It also makes for sometimes muddy pictures, too, which lend nothing to the story. Boyle and Garland do not pay excessive attention to simple logic all the time, so don't bother asking yourself why, for example, the survivors fail to liberate some rifles from the police station. Questions like that will just distract you from the scary, scary business at hand. Better to let yourself go with the flow, and enjoy the fright."

Scarecrow: Master of Fear

But wait...no one knows the real cause. You were once hanging around someone who was complaining of stomach problems. Could he be a long term carrier and didn't wipe his hands after he went to the restroom and before he handed you that chip from his bag of chips? Mass confusion has hit the market and you begin wondering if you wash your hands before and after you piss or shit. Wipe all the lids before you rest your bare bum upon the seat. Place three layers of toilet paper just to be sure. You gave blood to be sacrificed to be tested and await the final word. Which letter will be the verdict and wait will it take to get it all fixed? Will your eyes go back to white soon and will your piss lighten up for once? All of these are in your head. Good thing you have no test tomorrow.

I suppose you go through a phase and you do all these stupid things and you think to yourself, "well this is stupid" and so you leave the zone and you wonder if there will be later consequences. So you wait and nothing happen. Little did you know that they were occuring underneath your nose as something you had thought was a simple tummy ache and wow look your eyes start turning yellow and when you piss, the urine is a little darker. So you go to the doctor about the eyes and you find out that they are all connected and the fool is now you. I think that about sums things up.

the official R.E.M. home

You know how it's like when you go through a musician's career and you realize how much they've had on your life. I have to say that R.E.M. has been one of my favorite groups over the past many years. I listen to their music and and I'm amazed at it. I can remember hearing "Stand" back in 1990 or so. It was used as the theme song to this show that I can't remember and then I saw their breakthrough song "Loosing My Religion" and I loved it. So did people in my Boy Scout's troup. I would sing it all of the time (well when it either was playing on MTV or on the radio). My spanish teacher made me a copy of their 1992 album for Automatic for the People (which is still one of my favorite albums of all time). On the first side of the cassette, was the first nine songs. The second side had the last three songs. Then it had three songs from their album Green and three more songs (including "Loosing My Religion" and "Near Wild Heaven") from Out of Time. Over the many years, I listened to them more and more. I still haven't heard all songs from their other albums. I remember Micheal Stipe being the icecream man on the show the Adventures of Pete and Pete. So anyhow, this band rocks and you all know it.

Florida's Natural

I don't know why my stomach is aching up like it is. I really don't know why. When I eat something, my stomach begins this weird churning thing and I feel as though I need to burp, but sometimes I'm afraid to do so because I might vomit instead. It's really gross if you ask me and hte doctors say that it will take some time for it to all go away. I was very pleased when I was riding the bus and for the first time in a long time, my stomach wasn't bothering me. Now I need to run to the restroom. How gross, but hey...thanks for dropping by Florida's Natural! While you're here, why not take a little tour of our site? You can learn more about the orange juice we process. Alien

As said by: Steve Biodrowski "The film that put Gothic horror in outer space, ALIEN proved that material often derided as B-movie fodder could be handled with finesse and glossy production values, without diminishing the thrills or polishing over the horror. Dan O`Bannon`s script is filled with memorable moments of revulsion (the face-hugger, the chest-burster), and the uncredited rewrite by Walter Hill & David Giler adds an impressive layer of gritty, working class characterization. Director Ridley Scott films the whole thing to exquisite effect, capturing both the terror and the beauty of the titular creature, a sleek and amazing design by H.R. Giger that is only briefly glimpsed, preventing us from getting a clear picture of the beast`s nature until the final scenes reveal it in all its glory. Those extreme closeups, of lips curling back from rows of teeth within teeth, are enough to make the skin crawl, and the atmosphere of dread reaches unrelieved levels, with never a sense of respite being offered. In DRACULA, you felt safe during the day; in JAWS, you felt safe out of the water; but in ALIEN, there is no safety to be found aboard the ill-fated Nostromo. And the clever, ten-little-indians plot structure, with no character clearly identified as the protagonist, leaves you genuinely unsure who will survive to the final credits. The cast (Tom Skerritt, Yaphet Kotto, John Hurt, Harry Dean Stanton, Ian Holm, Veronica Cartwright) are all excellent, with newcomer Sigourney Weaver showing all the talent that would make her a star. A beautiful piece of filmmaking about a terrifying subject."

The whole taking charge thing and how I miss feeling like an important person seems to get me down. I'm in a good mood now. More along the line of calm. I failed my German test this morning...or I think I did. I should have studied more for it, but oh well. I didn't leave a single answer blank and I did really excellent on the first test. I will do much better on following tests and I have my interview this Friday where I have to speak in all German to the profressor. I was on campus today and I saw these various guys whom at some point I had a crush. I didn't say anything to those guys because I just wanted to just walk away and not deal with the things. I have a tendancy to do that at times. I'm in a calm collective mood though. I wrote about something like this in my journal last night. I need to be more on time about things, but I'm slowly learning like today, I'm able to quickly adjust things for the new month and today's link is an online comic that David suggested I check out. I'm waiting on my money to get into my account and I'm hanging out in the computer lab where the person to my right and left are both chatting in a chat room at gay.com so I find that interesting. I wonder if they've chatted with one another at some point. The person to my right seems to be the type that would be in the closet, so he goes onto gay.com to find someone to be his sex partner for the night and he wants to keep it all on the downlow. I'm kind of jealous of those type. They're the ones who are muscular and well liked by many (not that I want to be well liked by 2,000 people). I just want one person to like me and for it to be someone I can like as well. There I've said it. As Michelle Branch would ask, "Are you happy now?"

I don't remember how I got to those, but I had friends who would participate in this kind of sword battle. Actually I had heard about it even before I transfered. Anyhow, it was all of the odd and weird kids who were into this. A lot of them were friends. I never took part in it, but it fascinated me to see this. Around this same time, I was slowly introduced to the world of Magic! The Gathering. I remember one day on the shoot of an Audio Adrenaline video, some friends would play it. I wonder why I never got involved. Anyhow, just recently, I started noticing people on my college campus into this. It takes me back to 1994 when I first had heard of this. So here is the site.

In London, New Sportscar Doubles As Boat

(AP) - Britain's newest sports car took a test drive Wednesday, zooming back and forth across the waters of the Thames River in pure James Bond style. The Aquada can hit speeds of 100 miles an hour on land Ñ and once it hits water, the wheels retract into the wheel arch, jets kick in, and the car is suddenly a boat. Once waterborne it can reach speeds of 30 miles per hour, according to Gibbs Technologies, the British firm that designed it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 version)

Action/Adventure, Suspense/Horror and Thriller On August 20th 1973, police were dispatched to the remote farmhouse of Thomas Hewitt, a former head-skinner at a local slaughterhouse in Travis County, Texas. What they found within the confines of his cryptic residence was the butchered remains of 33 victims, a chilling discovery that shocked and horrified a nation in what many still call the most gruesome mass murder case of all time. Brandishing a chainsaw and wearing the grotesque flesh masks of his victims, the killer became forever known as "Leatherface" when sensational headlines were splashed across newspapers throughout the state of Texas: "House of Horrors Stuns Nation - Massacre in Texas." Police and FBI eventually gunned down a man wearing a leathery mask and declared they had their killer and abruptly closed the case. However, in the years that followed, many close to the grisly murder case would come forward to level accusations that police had botched the investigation and knowingly killed the wrong man. Now, for the first time, the only known survivor of the killing spree has broken the silence and come forward to tell the real story of what happened on that deserted rural Texas highway when a group of five young kids inadvertently found themselves besieged by a chainsaw wielding madman who would leave a trail of blood and terror that would forever be known as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Release Date: October 17th, 2003 (wide).

Francois Ozon Official Website: News

I have to link this site here because it contains information about this movie that is being released soon. The name of it is Swimming Pool. You can see clips from it as well as a trailor. In one scene, the characters begin speaking in French, but then switch to English and you can see subtitles in French. It seems to be an interesting movie. It's playing at Green Hills in Nashville and it might be playing in Detroit, so maybe I will see it in a few weeks when I go to Toledo. I know that when I got to a movie theatre there, I must see a movie that is only playing in selected places. Au revoir pour maintenant.

The LindowsOS Linux Operating System Homepage

I love this song by Enya called "Storms in Africa" and it's such a wonderful song. It reminds me of this one day when I was hanging out with some friends. We all were getting along so very well. Well now some of them don't get along and so I can never relive that moment, but this song will be able to allow me to visit that moment and think of the good times we all once had.

Geekboys Pocket Protectors. The Pocket Protector for the discriminating Techie

This site will prove itself worthy of being placed here for all to see. I might have to get myself a pocket protector and then me and my friends can make our own Revenge of the Nerds movies. I'm insane...I know this as does Tyler Durden.

American Splendor

I have to see this movie. It opens in New York in a couple of weeks, but it opens in New York, LA, and Cleveland on 15. August, which is when I will be in Toledo, Ohio visiting Brad. Perhaps he and I will be able to see it then. Perhaps I can even get this shown on campus in the KUC Theatre. That will be so phat.

Mathematicians born in Germany

I have to go to Books-A-Million now. It's expected of me. This is going to be interesting. My life seems to be heading someplace, but I have to just calm down and not worry about things. It's going to be ok. So in the meantime, I have this super duper list of German mathemeticians. I might choose August Ferdinand Mšbius. My friend, Jeremy, is partial to Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. We shall see whom I will speak about in class on Monday.

The Clientele

I'm listening to a song called "Prelude" and it's by this band. You should try to hear it. It's a really somber, calm song. I don't know what I was thinking last night. I mean I can't even remember what I did last night. I think I'm going to go and eat some valium or something. There has to be something healthier in the fridge.

Act Like a Phoon!

"Strange Little Girls" is the song I'm listening to at the moment. It's a great song from the cool and angelic voice of Tori Amos. I love the song and you should visit the web site that is located above. You will all have to thank me. You really should be going to Phoon.

I was up around 5am and I saw the video to these guy's song "Move Your Feet" and I absolutely love it. The video is great and the song gets me moving. I'm about to check out their web site. I found it on yahoo and then copied the link and placed it here. So let's all go and check it out.

I'm listening to "Furious Angels" which is by this artist. I was visiting the yahoo launch page and I noticed a video marked as "Clubbed to Death" and I recognize that as the song that was on the first Matrix soundtrack. So I decided to loop this person up and here is the link. For some odd reason, everything today is remindind me of Candyman (the movie). It could be that I saw it just recently.

Fuse Television

So this is MTV's competition. There's a story about this channel in the July 24th issue of the Rolling Stone (the one with Eminem on the cover...issue 927). So I'm going to check this site out sometime later because I just need to think about this moment a little more than normal.

You know that moment when you listen to a song for the first time and you really like it and you listen to it a thousand times and you still want to hear it more and more and more? Well this guy has a really cool song called "Amazing" and it's clearly my vote for song of the day. You must indulge in this song. You, two, will love it. I'm in a good mood now, I just wanted to share that with everyone.

Sydband

I have a lot to do in the next few days. I need to come up with movies for the fall, buy a bus ticker to get to Toledo of Ohio, make a web page for my friend and meet him on Thursday to discuss it, and I don't want to overwhelm myself. I just hope that the bug known as procrastination doesn't bite me. I'll talk more as this cool groove called "Climbing Up the Walls (Zero 7 Remix)" slams into my eardrums.

Go Underground (with Dirty Pretty Things)

I'm so very hungry and I'm listening to Zero 7's remix "Climbing Up the Walls" from Radiohead. I'm going to go home and make me some dinner. I don't know what I will have. Perhaps I will make a baked potato along with some vegie burger. I might make some vegieburger and place it in my vegie chili. I hope that Dirty Pretty Things will play in Nashville at the Green Hills Cinema. That would be so grand.

Colt and Company

Terrence and I are watching an episode of the new Spiderman that is now on MTV. I think it seems alright. Lots of flashy colors and techno beats as the soundtrack. You can hear Lisa Loeb as the part of Mary Jane and that guy who was in Doogie Howser M.D. I was so jealous of him. He's so intelligent, the character I mean. I know I should study more and engulf myself in education and intelligence and all. I complain too much. So far, Spiderman is fighting against this girl in green. There's something about the sword.

Vegetarian Times

I'm listening to this funky song from the group Del the Funky Homosapian. It's called "Help Me Out" and I love the flow of this song. I found this song thanks to this one web page that escapes my mind at this time. I watched the director's commentary of the film Pi this morning. It's a great movie. Soon enough I will make a film that I will be very proud of. I want to make art films...not those hip blockbuster films. I have nothing against them. I'm just don't think I can make one of those.

My hands are twitching. I need to do something and quick. I need to get some sleep. Something is going down and I don't know when it will be. Tell me something that I already don't know. I mean one day, I was sleeping in a car and this person honks his horn at me to wake me up. What a blowhole!

The Pampered Prisoner

My friend, Mike, just sent me this link and I will have to check this out. In the meantime, my watch is about to beep. This morning starting at 9am, my watch has started to beep on every hour. I like it. It's reassuring and pleasant. I wish theur was a market nearby. I want to grab a snack, but I don't have the drive to walk all the way to a store located miles away. I do want to walk a little, but not a lot. I'm easily embarrased. I have the new Beyonce Knowles song in my head. I know that this song was sampled, but I don't know by. I want to say it was some late 1970's game show, but the only one that comes to mind is "The Price is Right," but I doubt that's it though (is that show still on the air?).

The Roots

I have to keep on my toes. I just like saying that. I'm listening to the cool and awesome song called "The Seed" by these guys and I love this song. I like how it reminds of something that you would hear the Rolling Stones playing back in the day. It would be their version of the Run DMC/Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" (I'm just thinking out loud). I am tired now, but I have so much energy. Is this one of those moments where you only should take a sip from the glass and endulge in its taste instead of simply jugging the whole drink down? Ich weiss noch nicht!

It's a Special Topic in Art History and the topic is Art of the Pacific Islands. For out take home exam, we have to answer this question...Oceanic Art: Is it Art? So anyhow, I wanted to look this up because I made a reference to the impressionist art period and I think the realism art period. I might post my completed essay online for all you to read. Wagon Christ

I'm listening to a little tune called "Perkission" and I absolutely love this song. I found out about it thanks to the wonderful web page of Epitonic.com where they have free MP3's from great people. I should download some of the songs and burn them onto CD and then I will be able to listen to the joyous music of obscure music whereever I go. Perhaps I might get into making mix CD's instead of mix tapes. I barely listen to the radio these days (because mostly it sucks). I love Lightning 100, but I can barely pick it up and I miss Thunder 94. Those were the days back in 1994 when they would play Portishead (Sour Times), The Flaming Lips (She Don't Use Jelly), or even Soul Coughing (Screenwriter's Blues). Times has changed. It's good that bands the Flaming Lips and Radiohead are still around in addition to newer bands like The White Stripes and Coldplay. I'm a bit nostalgic now and it's making me sad.
